About Wabi Sabi
Our story stems from my hobby as a watch enthusiast. As an individual who enjoys collecting watches, it was natural that I was intrigued by the variety of watch strap options out there. Having seen the domestic prices of a custom-made leather watch strap, which goes anywhere above $100, it was ludicrous for me to continue paying exorbitant prices for every watch strap which I would invest in for every watch I collect. Moreover, the differences in lug-widths across various watches also meant that the straps were not transferrable.
This experience led me to create my own leather watch straps, and from there, Wabi Sabi was born. From the initial phases of making watch straps, I also created coin purses and leather bags. Eventually, the focus for Wabi Sabi changed dramatically to one on leather wallets. At Wabi Sabi, we believe that wallets allow more freedom in innovation and design.
What drive us here at Wabi Sabi are not profits, but rather our passion in creating quality leather products at reasonable prices. Given the long hours that are required to create every handmade leather product, it is almost impossible to profit without charging exorbitant prices. On average, we spend about 15-20 active hours to complete a single wallet, as we do not rely on any machinery. Every wallet is hand cut, hand sewn, and hand burnished for vegetable-tanned leather products.
In fact, we love creating wallets with our own two hands and conceptualising new wallet designs; this is the reason why our production is extremely limited. With our day-to-day jobs in the morning, we only work on projects at night and on weekends. The longer turnaround time you may experience is because we are dedicated in creating the best wallet to cater to your needs and wants.
The name Wabi Sabi, which has its origins in the traditional Japanese tea ceremony, invites us to step back from the hectic modern world and be ourselves.
